My beautician told me that I have to relax my hair to get twists because they can only be done on hair that is straight. She said "I am a licensed cosmetologist so I know what I am talking about." How do you twist your hair without straightening?
Well, I do not know this person to truly agree or disagree that they know what they are talking about. The only thing I can tell you is what I know based on my experience with my hair. When my hair is straight/flat ironed, it will not hold a twist to save my life. However, when my hair is in its natural state I can twist my hair and it will hold the twist without product, hair ties, or clips. Check out YouTube for other examples of how how natural hair individuals with various textures twist their hair in its natural state. If you are set with working with your stylist you may want to kindly suggest/show her some of the videos that you watch just so that you both will be on the same page. Maybe after watching a few videos you will see that twisting your hair is pretty easy and something that you can do yourself.
